Annual rainfall averages more in Chicago than Seattle, but it rains more often there. This is what it looks like a good deal of the time up there in the verdant Northwest. Cool, damp, and grey. Our highs in the 60s are more befitting early October than the first day of July. At least the upper low that's been spinning over the upper Great Lakes the past few days is finally inching east, and gradually overnight, the clouds will begin to break up from the west. Tomorrow will boast much more sunshine and a 10-degree warm up. As for the holiday, all signs point to dry weather weather for fireworks Friday and Saturday, and highs both days in the lower 80s. One note... even on the heels of the 7th wettest June on record in Chicago, many gardens have seen less than 1/2" rain over the past 10 days. If you have new plantings, don't forget to keep them watered, especially new trees. The plants generally need an inch of water per week, and if you get 4" in one day, it doesn't mean the garden is fine for the next 4 weeks.

Two weeks of miserable weather, too hot, then to cold and overcast, and still not a drop of rain. What a miserable Spring and Summer this has been.
