For this Labor Day, a nearby warm front will be responsible for a few showers and a major warm-up. A low-level jet stream formed out to our west overnight, sparking a cluster of thunderstorms which is now weakening as it moves into the southwest suburbs (as of 5:00 a.m.) Once the showers exit, we should break into at least partly sunny skies, and as a low pressure system winds up in the Plains, a gusty southerly wind will be established producing gusts to more than 30mph today, and perhaps more than 40mph tomorrow. A cold front will blast through here late tomorrow, knocking temperatures back down toward 70 for mid-week. In the southern Gulf of Mexico, a new tropical storm has formed. Hermine is a compact system, and will move into far northeastern Mexico and southern Texas with locally heavy rains over the next few days.
