Another nice one!

After a fantastic day on Saturday with a high of 81, Sunday promises to spectacular as well.  Expect sunny and pleasant conditions with highs around 77 degrees.  Winds will be coming from the N/NE at 5-15 mph.  The National Weather Service has issued a rip current statement as well, so if you're swimming in the lake today, be aware of this (see link) http://www.crh.noaa.gov/news/display_cmsstory.php?wfo=lot&storyid=72267&source=0

Of course our thoughts are along the east coast with the people affected by Hurricane Irene.  It's expected to be downgraded to a tropical storm today and New York City is expected to endure heavy rain, high storm surges,and flooding.

Nothing but sun

Greetings to all.  Many of you, like me, may have friends and family on the East Coast.  So, if you are looking to follow details on Hurricane Irene, the above two links will help you to keep track of the progress of this large and dangerous storm.  Our own local National Weather Service office has done a wonderful job in continuing to post information and links regarding this hurricane which will impact a big stretch of the nation.  Tracy

Air and Water Show weekend!

If you're planning to head out to the air and water show this weekend, I'll cut to the chase.  Sunday appears to be the nicer day this weekend.  After ending our week with highs in the mid to upper 80s, a cold front slices its way through Chicagoland today producing afternoon chances of showers and thunderstorms.  At this point it appears the best chances for thunderstorm development will be between the hours of 1:00-6:00 pm on Saturday.  While the day won't be a wash out, be aware (especially if you're going to the air and water show) that a shower or two could pop up.  By Sunday afternoon be sure to enjoy lower dew points (less sticky conditions) and temps in the mid to upper 70s.  Next week shapes up to be another nice week, with best rain chances Tuesday & Wednesday.  Here are the numbers and conditions for next week.  Monday: (high/low) 80/65, mostly sunny.  Tuesday: 81/67, partly to mostly sunny with a slight chance of a shower.  Wednesday: 84/68, Partly sunny with rain likely.  Thursday: 81/69, mostly sunny.  Friday: 80/65, sunny and pleasant.   Have a great weekend everyone!  MARK BISHOP

Still warm but not oppressive

While it has been pretty warm this month we haven't had to deal with the oppressive heat like we endured in July. The last time we hit 90° was back on August 2 and overall this month the average temperature is running just 1.1° above normal.

   Temperatures through the weekend will make it into the low to mid 80s but the problem could be thunderstorms. There is a chance of thunderstorms Friday morning and then again Saturday afternoon. While the storms could cause some problems for the Air & Water Show most of the weekend should be dry.

  Some of the medium range models push temperatures into the upper 80s by the middle of next week before it cools off a bit as we close in on the weekend of the 27th & 28th.

August 14th: Comfortably cooler

After a stormy day on Saturday, weather conditions calm down considerably.  Hail and heavy rain were reported across Chicagoland on Saturday, but expect a quiet day for your Sunday.  As I write this, a few showers are coming off the lake over Porter and LaPorte counties in Indiana, but as the day progresses, these storms should fall off by the afternoon.  Expect a cooler than average day today with comfortable highs in the mid to upper 70s.  Count on gusty north winds at 15-20 mph at times.  Because of the gusty north winds, the national weather service has issue a rip current statement (see link)  http://forecast.weather.gov/showsigwx.php?warnzone=INZ001&warncounty=INC089&firewxzone=INZ001&local_place1=2+Miles+SW+Gary+IN&product1=Rip+Current+Statement

Saturday August 13

After some minor storm activity overnight, expect chances of showers and thunderstorms to increase late this morning into the afternoon and evening as our next low pressure center moves in.  Highs will stay generally in the mid to upper 70s throughout the weekend.  As the low moves through today, winds will eventually turn from SW to N/NW ushering in cooler air. For those heading out to the Bears pre-season home opener, it couldn't hurt to take along some rain gear in case a storm pops during the game.  Game-time temps should be in the low 70s dropping into the 60s after sunset.  Here are the specifics of my 7-day forecast.  Today-High of 79 with chances of showers, Sunday-becoming breezy with a high of 77, low of 65, Monday-80/64, sunny skies, Tuesday-82/65, sunny, Wednesday-83/67, chance of showers, Thursday-84/68, mostly sunny, Friday: 80/66, mostly sunny.  Have a wonderful weekend!  MARK BISHOP

Greetings to all.  Well the humid weekend weather will linger a little bit in Chicago this week, mainly for today. But once we get to Wednesday, do I dare say it may feel a bit "fall-like?"  We hinted last week at a bit of a cool down this week and it appears that is still set to be the case. 

Meanwhile, if you are thinking you will miss the heat, get yourself to Texas!  Today will mark the 38th consecutive day where temperatures have reached 100° there.  The record number of consecutive days with 100+ heat there is 42.  Looks like it could be a record-setting week there....but our records should all stay in tact, at least for this week.

Give the air conditioners a break next week!

If you haven't been a fan of the muggy warm/hot weather over the past couple of weeks, relief is coming!  Showers are approaching ahead of a cold front Sunday morning.  Most of the showers are light in nature, but as the cold front slices through the midwest, afternoon thunderstorms could develop, some with gusty winds and heavy rain.  Expect highs to be in the mid to upper 80s with some 90s appearing especially south and west of Chicago.  Lows will drop in to the 60s tonight as skies become partly cloudy.  Highs will top in the low 80s on Monday but a secondary cold front appears on Tuesday ushering in even cooler air that will guarantee comfortable conditions for Wednesday and Thursday with highs in the upper 70s.  Pleasant conditions will continue into Friday and Saturday with highs in the low 80s.  The best chances of rain in the next 7 days will be this morning/afternoon, Tuesday, and Friday.  I hope you have a great week!  MARK BISHOP

Steamy Weekend

While not as hot as in weeks and days past, expect a warm and steamy weekend across Chicagoland.  Warm=highs in the 80s....steamy=dew point temperatures in the 70s.  Put those two together and it won't take long to work up a sweat in this kind of weather.  After an early chance of rain on Saturday, temps will top around 86 degrees under mostly cloudy to partly sunny conditions.  Look for skies to become partly cloudy tonight with lows in the low 70s.  Expect even warmer temps for Sunday with highs near 90.  A passing cold front could spark some hefty showers in the late afternoon/early evening on Sunday.  Then, look for a comfortable work week with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s.  Here's what I'm thinking...Monday-81/65 (high/low), mostly sunny skies.  Tuesday-82/63, partly sunny with a chance of showers.  Wednesday-78/61, sunny.  Thursday-80/63, mostly sunny.  Friday, 82/64, Partly cloudy with the chance of a shower.  Have a great weekend!  MARK BISHOP
