Crisp fall day

With sunshine reappearing for your Saturday, I'm calling it a crisp fall day.  Look for highs in the low to mid 50s today with a W/NW wind 5-10 mph.  Surely a good day to rake some leaves!  Overnight the clouds will thicken up and Sunday will bring a chance of an afternoon sprinkle/rain shower with very breezy conditions.  Highs on Sunday will be in the mid 50s.  Our peak high will be on Tuesday with a progression down toward the upper 40s by next Friday.  Here's your work week forecast.  Monday: Mostly sunny, high-55 low-39.  Tuesday: Mostly sunny, high-60, low-41.  Wednesday: Partly sunny with a chance of rain, high-49, low-44.  Thursday: Partly sunny with a chance of rain, high-51, low-42.  Friday: Mostly sunny, high-49, low-38.  I hope you have a wonderful week!

A nice weekend!

Starting off the morning with frost advisories, we will rebound into the low 60s across Chicagoland today.  It's looking like a nice weekend for your Saturday and Sunday.  While slight chances of showers pop into the picture on Sunday, expect partly cloudy to mostly sunny conditions throughout.  Average highs this time of the year are right around 60, so enjoy the weekend with highs averaging 3-6 degrees above normal.  The mild weather lasts through Tuesday, with highs flirting near 70 the first few days of the new week.  Here are the specifics.  Saturday-(high/low) 63/34, mostly sunny.  Sunday-66/43, partly cloudy to mostly sunny with a slight chance of an afternoon shower.  Monday-67/49, sunny skies.  Tuesday-66/50, mostly cloudy with a chance of showers.  Wednesday-55/47, mostly cloudy with a chance of showers.  Thursday-53/42, mostly sunny.  Friday-54/40, mostly sunny.  The Chicago Bears play in London on Sunday against Tampa Bay, so if you're going, expect kickoff temps (noon our time, 6pm London time) to be near 52 under mostly clear skies.  Have a wonderful weekend.  Enjoy the nice weather!

Not as windy

After Saturday's peak wind gusts near 40 mph, winds will slacken off today to about 5-15 mph from the N/NW.  Expect some early day showers for your Sunday, then decreasing clouds later in the afternoon.  Sunday highs will be in the lower 60s range, much like yesterday.  Bears host the Vikings tonight at Soldier Field.  Kickoff temperature will be around 54 with W/NW winds picking up to 10-15 mph with gusts up to 20 mph-GO BEARS!  Monday looks to be a mostly sunny day with a high near 60 and lows in the mid to upper 40s.  Averages for mid October are 62/42, so expect our highs the rest of the week to be a bit below normal.  Here's the rest of the week's outlook.  Tuesday (high/low) 54/43-mostly cloudy with a chance of rain.  Wednesday-55/42-mostly cloudy with a chance of rain.  Thursday-54/41-mostly sunny.  Friday-57/42-sunny skies.  Saturday-60/45-mostly sunny.  Have a great week everyone!

Perfect for hayrides & pumpkin picking

With highs in the 80s last weekend, it will be difficult to compare our weather this weekend with cool highs in the 60s.  However, perfect for hayrides and pumpkin picking!  We will enjoy sunshine on Saturday but it will be quite breezy with west winds kicking up at 20-25 mph with possible gusts near 35 mph.  Chances are if you still need to rake those falling leaves they'll blow in the neighbor's yard today (if they already didn't yesterday).  Overnight tonight look for chances of rain late that could linger into the morning hours on Sunday, then I anticipate decreasing clouds into the afternoon.  For those going to the evening Bears game, temps should be in the mid-50s at kickoff under partly cloudy skies.  Here's a look at details of my 7-day forecast.  Today: Sunny-(high/low)62/47, Sunday: Chance of morning rain then decreasing clouds-61/46, Monday: Mostly sunny-61/42, Tuesday: Mostly cloudy with a chance of rain-55/43, Wednesday: Mostly cloudy with a chance of rain-54/42, Thursday: Sunny-55/41, Friday: Mostly sunny-58/42.  Have a wonderful weekend everyone!  Mark Bishop 

Still not half bad for October

After seeing five days in a row with temperatures into the 80s we saw highs fall back into the 70s on Monday and highs will again reach the mid 70s today and tomorrow. While somewhat cooler than what we saw earlier this month these readings are more than 10° above normal.

 We have yet to see any measurable rain this month but that will likely change on Wednesday and especially Thursday as a steady rain is possible especially Thursday afternoon.

 Right now the weekend looks pretty nice with highs in the 60s and plenty of sun both days. A significant rain event is possible Monday afternoon into Tuesday as a storm system will pass just to south. Meanwhile, chilly air moving south out of Canada will set-up a big temperature gradient across the Midwest. This will lead to a large area of moderate to heavy rain which should encompass most if not all of our area.

SUNsational Weekend!

With near record highs on Friday, we continue our stretch of warm weather as we roll into the Columbus day weekend.  Expects highs in the low 80s on both days with plenty of sunshine.  The best chance of rain this weekend will come on Wednesday and Thursday as the daily highs start sliding down.  By next Friday highs will actually top below normal.  Here are the specifics.  Saturday (high/low) 82/58-sunny, Sunday-81/59-sunny, Monday-76/58-sunny, Tuesday-75/57-mostly sunny, Wednesday-73/56-partly sunny with a chance of showers, Thursday-65/54-partly sunny with a shower possible, Friday-60/47-mostly sunny.  Have a great weekend.  Go Bears (Monday night football)!

Hello sunshine!

Coming off a very gloomy and rainy week, let me be the first to welcome back the sunshine!  This weekend, the sprinkles and rain will finally move eastward to create greener pastures elsewhere.  We will enjoy a week's worth of sunshine and mild temps.  We will start off the weekend with chilly highs in the mid 50s with breezy conditions, but Sunday promises sunny skies and highs in the 60s.  Should be a picture perfect day for a home football game at soldier field (Go Bears!).  By Monday highs will top into the low 70s with more sunny skies.  In fact, expect highs in the 70s all week accompanied by sun!  Here are the projected temps for the entire week (high/low).  Monday-71/49, Tuesday-74/51, Wednesday-75/54, Thursday-76/55, Friday-74/55.  Have a wonderful week...and of course, enjoy the sun!  MARK BISHOP

Three more days of Rain

Unsettled weather will continue through Tuesday as another disturbance moves into the area and then sits right over us. The heaviest rains will come late tonight and again during the day on Tuesday. Much of the daylight hours of both today and Monday will be gray with just a few scattered showers.

 The upper level low will move out mid-week allowing for temperatures to climb into the seventies on Wednesday. The warm-up won't last though as a cold front will move through Wednesday night bringing us drier but cooler weather for late in the week.

 It is pretty much a guarantee that September will be the first month of below normal temperatures since May. This will also be the coolest September since at least 2006.

First autumn weekend

It will surely feel like fall this weekend (even 10 degrees cooler than average).  A pesky area of low pressure will stick around spinning clouds and patches of rain around it.  Expect mostly cloudy skies the entire weekend with periods of rain, even the chance of a thunderstorm.  Highs will only top in the low 60s with lows in the 50s.  The last thing soldier field's freshly sodded field needs is more rain, but it looks like there could be rain right around the 3:15 pm kickoff providing a slip-and-slide playing environment for the teams on Sunday (go Bears!).  The clouds will hang around until Tuesday then a nice break midweek with sunshine and highs back in the 70s on Wednesday & Thursday.  It appears the weather into next weekend will cool down once again with highs in the 60s.  Bottom line, it looks like a good book reading-movie watching weekend today and tomorrow.  Enjoy the weekend!  Thanks for stopping in to visit our weather blog!  Mark Bishop

A much needed rain followed by a little warmth

Through 10pm Sunday .41" of rain has fallen at O'Hare making it the rainiest day since August 23. The rain should come to an end early Monday with maybe another 1/10 to 1/4 inch of rain.

  A brief warm-up is on the way for Monday and Tuesday. Highs Tuesday afternoon could get close to 80° but enjoy it while you can because substantially cooler air will arrive on Wednesday. Temperatures for the second half of this week will be quite chilly which will keep September on track to be the first month cooler than normal since May.
